Hi there, I'm Justin. Thanks for dropping by.
My grandfather Bruce Rofe (who sadly passed away in 1998) was a son of Albert Frederick Rofe, who in turn was a grandson of John and Margaret Rofe. So that makes me a great-great-great-grandson (phew, that's a mouthful!) of John and Margaret Rofe. I grew up in Bendigo, Victoria, and nowadays live in Brisbane with my wife Jennifer and our three children. Sadly, I haven't always been as interested in family history as I am today. However, with the passing of my last surviving grandparent, Jess Rofe, back in 2017 (rest in peace, Nan) it dawned on me that I'd missed many precious opportunities over the years to learn more about my family history. I've been undertaking some ad hoc family research for about a year now, as time permits. Even in such a short time, it's amazing the things that I've come across... Credit where credit is due. I'm indebted to the work of earlier family historians, especially Bev Oldfield and Jean Grove. I remember attending a family reunion as a child in the late 1980s, and to this day I still have a copy of the booklet prepared by Bev and Jean that was given out at that reunion. Their families should be justifiably proud of their efforts. A shout-out to Stephanie Hocking of the Rofe/Relf DNA Project too, who helped me out with John Rofe's UK ancestors. Thanks Stephanie! I'm also indebted to the generosity of my father and uncles in sharing their time and resources. Family reunion, anyone? As you've probably picked up from the title of this site, recently I've been thinking ahead to 2028. Two hundred years of our family in Australia? Wow! I don't know about you, but I'm pumped, so... Family reunion in Tasmania in 2028? Yep, you heard me, just puttin' it out there... Please drop me a line via the contact form below. Say hi and let me know where you fit in to "our lot". Questions, comments and suggestions are always welcome. I'm always happy to share information and source documents (pursuant to copyright restrictions) wherever I can. ** Copies of source documents, and donations of photos and memorabilia all gratefully accepted. If you have something you can share, please don't hesitate to let me know.** |
